Grandmas Grandchildren
Dear diary, and to you. When I began posting ,and named my blog ,"Thisgrandmasdiary",I decided on this title because my thinking is grandmas are someone you can trust, grandmas are always willing to listen, grandmas want to know as much as possible about people's lives, and usually they want to know everything about their grandchildren's lives. You might say,"that doesn't make sense, don't you have a life of your own?" I do have a life of my own and my grandchildren are a big part of my life.I'm pretty sure I know my 16 year old granddaughter better than anyone else. She has good parents, they are divorced, but my granddaughter has always been easygoing, and she has always been loved. I say I know her better than any one else, because I recognize things like; She was to give a speech, and even though she said she didn't mind standing in front of class, she was afraid she would not remember all of her speech. So about 2 weeks later,I picked her up from school. She was her usual pleasant self.We began driving away from school ,and I said,"You didn't give that speech did you?"She looked a bit surprised,I said,"you missed school that day didn't you."She gave me a quick look and then she admitted, she didn't give the speech and yeah she stayed home that day.I said no one else has ask you that question have they?.She looked at me for a moment and then she came up with an excuse for missing.I told her I knew that was not the reason she stayed home.I said ,"you were afraid, weren't you?She said yeah,we talked about how we have to face our fears or they will control our life.We talked about problem solving. What would be away to face this fear?. We decided,if she could ask her teacher to allow my granddaughter to have cards to use while making her speech, find a topic she knows, and likes to talk about, practice her speech, and imagine the scene . How she could see herself giving her speech, how did she want to give the speech,?Did she want to appear relaxed,be dramatic, animated? So the next time she did give her speech, and she was highly praised. The teacher wanted her to continue next year to competitive speech, the teacher wrote glowing comments on my granddaughter's scoring page.So ...as it turns out I was giving her a ride home that day,and she ran to the car,she was so excited, she told me everything, even classmates complimented her on her speech giving. She gave me a replay of how she looked at the class, but not really, she showed how she used her cards, and she said ,and love I the topic,so the speech was 5minutes,but she said ,I new I could talk about the topic for hours,to anyone who would listen. There is so much more I wanted to put into this post, but I am like my granddaughter,I'd best come to a close here.Oh the topic for her speech,a celebrity and the activist work she had done...So till tomorrow;think about what are your fears.
